Jann Bungcaras products are 100% made or upcycled from discarded and damaged materials that the designer personally rescued from textile waste facilities, landfills, and manufacturers around the country. Some of these materials are donated through the Forever Discounts Circular Initiative, wherein clients are invited to donate clothes and other forms of textiles that they no longer use in exchange for stackable discounts up to 30%.

Even in cleaning, we made sure the process is low-impact for the environment. We start by pre-washing the textile waste with a vinegar-and-water solution twice to remove loose stains and dust, and then pre-soak them with another vinegar-and-water solution for 15 minutes to a whole day, depending on the type of fabric and the problems we have to solve. Vinegar is a natural acid that can remove all types of mold, germs, and bacteria. After the vinegar treatment, we handwash the materials using discontinued mild detergents and soaps to make use of another discarded product and prevent them from ending up in landfills. Being based in the Philippines, we use Comfort detergent in this endeavor. When all stains and problems are removed, it is time to rinse these materials in a vinegar solution first to neutralize the detergent, and then rinse them 3-6 times in plain water. The resulting grey water will be used to clean the studio floors while the materials are blanched for drying. Whites are often dried under the sun, while colored fabrics are only air-dried in the shade to prevent sun-bleaching.
